The relationship between distance and redshift of galaxies can be derived in this diagram.
The farther away a galaxy is, the higher the redshift. Few galaxies have a negative redshift (ie, they are shifted to the blue), which means to move these galaxies to us.
One example, the Andromeda Galaxy is about 2.2 million ly away, which is moving towards the Milky Way.
